App market by country

App market by country

For those who read the article on China, you might have seen this graph earlier on. But I thought I would post it directly on the blog to highlight the App market figures on AppStore, per country. Interesting facts:

  1. US accounts for 33% of revenues on the Appstore.
  2. Japan 10%
  3. UK 7%

Yes, you can count, it means 50% of the App revenue in the AppStore is made with only 3 countries. I guess our good old Paretto did actually found an interesting rule. Another interesting fact: I would have thought the South Korea would be in the ranking for AppStore revenue. They’re not, although they rank 4% in the number of free download, as I was expecting to see them here as well. What’s happening there ? Anyone having insights on the Korean market is welcome to comment here and explain us why the difference between free and paid apps. In the end, following my post on Localization, I guess we’ll have no choice but to go for a japanese version for our app if we want to address the main market. I’ll definitely be interested in your insight as well on the specificities of the japanese market regarding language preferences.
