The Art of Time : Priority management is the key of an efficient time management. Manage your time by sorting your priorities out.

When it comes to productivity books, there are essentially 2 sides of it:

  • how do I stuck more stuff to do in a single day ?
  • how do I change the way I look at what I’m doing to make it better.
Needless to say, after trying the first way of doing things in my early managing days, this is definitely the wrong approach. It leads to more stress, unbalanced life and at some point exhaustion.
The Art of Time from Servan-Schreiber belongs to the second category. It does not aim at giving tips on how to gain a few minutes a day but rather help you think of your time as a valuable asset that you should spend carefully. It is indeed a very nice way to highlight the importance of saying NO to useless things and focus on your priorities. This is a priority management.
Off course, it gives some tips and tricks but really focus on how to balance your life with your priorities and not others’ priorities so that you stay focused and do not pack your day with unnecessary activities.
I actually read it 3 times, each time going deeper in my inner comprehension of it and actually, of myself.
Because you’ll find when reading this book that your worst enemy to improve your efficiency is eventually yourself, your education, your “deep” automated reactions and your emotions.

A must read for people that always feel that their next 5 days are already packed with meetings and obligations, leaving no room for new opportunities.
